The Canadian Peace Alliance and the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War have called on all members and supporters to support existing demonstrations, or to organize their own, this Saturday, January 10 to demand that the Canadian government call for an immediate end to the massacre in Gaza. The Toronto Coalition to Stop the War has joined with Palestine House, the Canadian Arab Federation, the Coalition
Against Israeli Apartheid, and others for this Saturday's rally in Toronto.

We know that almost 600 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed and thousands more maimed and wounded since the Israeli assault began, and many more will be killed as the humanitarian disaster worsens.

The Government of Canada has so far rejected calls for a ceasefire and is supporting the war crimes being committed by Israel in Gaza. As with the wars in Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan, Stephen Harper has proven himself to be firmly in the camp of the war mongers of the outgoing Bush administration. This does not reflect the will of the majority of Canadians who want to see our country as an arbiter of peace rather than a country that supports the bombing of civilians.

Canadian Foreign Minister, Lawrence Cannon has blamed Hamas for starting this conflict by sending rockets into southern Israel, yet the facts contradict this assertion. According to Richard Falk, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories:

"There was no substantial rocket fire from Gaza during the ceasefire until Israel launched an attack last November 4 directed at what it claimed were Palestinian militants in Gaza, killing several Palestinians. Also, it was Hamas that on numerous public occasions called for extending the truce, with its calls never acknowledged,
much less acted upon, by Israeli officialdom."

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has been worsening since the Israeli blockade began two years ago. International agencies, including the United Nations, have condemned the blockade which has severely limited necessities such as medical supplies and food. The Harper government has been one of the most vociferous supporters of this collective punishment and was the first government to end humanitarian aid to the
Palestinians after the election of Hamas.

Since the Israeli bombing began, the crisis has worsened. More than 80 per cent of Palestinians are without needed food aid, and hospitals are operating on the thousands of wounded without anaesthetics or even basic pain killers. Electricity and communications have also been targeted resulting in isolation and deprivation for the 1.5 million people of Gaza.

The current assault on Gaza is an aggressive war that violates international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention. Our government is now complicit in these war crimes. Canadians will not stand by while the Conservative government supports the unilateral massacre of innocent people.

The Poster Campaign

In the month of November 2008 the coalition members had done a poster campaign. Three different posters in 20*24 size place in the city of Toronto with max effort. The poster are in B&W with the image of IDP's of Vanni, Sri Lanka. It also contain quotation of the well known political and NGO leaders around the world regarding the pathetic condition of Tamils of Sri Lanka.

The poster's main appeal question: 'do you recognize us?'

The small sized posters also distrubuted for the participants in the meeting of Mano Ganesan, M.P of Sri Lanka and veterant human right activist of Colombo the capital city of Sri Lanaka. The meeting held at the steel workers union hall.

“தமிழர் மீதான இன அழிப்பு யுத்தத்தையும் குண்டுவீச்சுக்களையும் பட்டினிச்சாவையும் உடனடியாக நிறுத்தும்படி இலங்கை அரசாங்கத்தைக் கோரல்”
இலங்கையில் பௌத்த சிங்கள இனவாத அரசானது தமிழ்பேசும் சிறுபான்மையின மக்கள்மீது பாரதூரமான இன அழிப்புப் போரை மூர்க்கத்தனமாக மீண்டும் தொடங்கியுள்ளது. தமிழ் பேசும் மக்கள் பாரம்பரியமாக வாழும் பிரதேசங்களின் மீது குண்டுவீச்சு விமானங்கள், பல்குழல் எறிகணை போன்ற பெரும் எடுப்பிலான படைநடவடிக்கைகள் மூலம் தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு பாரிய உயிர் அழிவுகளை, ஏற்படுத்தி கூட்டமாக கொன்று குவித்து, அவர்களை தங்கள் இருப்பிடங்களை விட்டு துரத்தி, மரங்களின்கீழ் வாழும் நிலைக்கு நிர்ப்பந்திக்கிறது.
பாரிய இனஅழிப்பு யுத்தத்தினால் அகதியாக்கப்படும் மக்கள் பட்டினிச்சாவு, தொற்று நோய்கள், உறவுகளைப் பிரிதல், மனஅச்சம், பொருட்களின் இழப்பு போன்ற சொல்லொணாத் துன்பங்களுக்கு உள்ளாகின்றனர். தொடர் இனஅழிப்பு யுத்தத்தின் மூலம் பெருமளவிலான தமிழ் மக்களை அகதிகளாக வைத்திருக்கும் இலங்கை அரசு மீண்டும் யுத்தத்தினூடாக புதிய அகதிகளை உருவாக்கும் ;நிலைஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.
மனித வரலாற்றில் இன அழிப்பில் ஈடுபட்ட பல அரசுகள் குறுகிய காலத்தில் சர்வதேசத்தால் தூக்கியெறியப்பட்டுள்ளன. தொடர்ந்து 50 ஆண்டுகளாக இனஅழிப்பில் ஈடுபட்டுவரும் இலங்கையரசினை சர்வதேச சமூகம் கண்டுகொள்ளாமல் மௌனமாக இருக்கிறது. எமது ஒன்றுபட்ட செயற்பாட்டின் மூலம் சர்வதேச சமூகத்தின் மௌனத்தைக் கலைப்போம்.

தனது நாட்டு மக்களின் மீதான இன அழிப்புப் போரைத் தொடர்வதன் மூலம், தனது நாட்டு மக்களையே கொல்லும் அரசாக, இலங்கை அரசே முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது. மக்கள் மீதான கரிசனைகொண்ட அனைவரும் ஒன்றுசேர்ந்து இதனைக் கண்டிக்கவும் அதற்காக ஒன்றுபட்டு கூட்டுக்குரலாக ஒலிக்கவும் நாம் ஒரு கூட்டமைப்பாக இணைய வேண்டிய பெரும்தேவை இருக்கிறது. இந்த அடிப்படையில் பல அழுத்தங்களை பலமுனைப்புக்களிலும் வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டியுள்ளது.
அவை:
• தமிழ் மக்கள் மீதான குண்டுவீச்சுக்கள் உடனடியாக நிறுத்தப்படவேண்டும்
• தடைசெய்யப்பட்ட யுத்த வழிமுறைகள் நிறுத்தப்படவேண்டும்.
• திட்டமிட்டு உள்நாட்டில் மக்களை அகதியாக்கல் நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்.
• இடம்பெயரும் மக்களிடம் அதே இடங்கள் மீள வழங்கப்படவேண்டும். பாதுகாப்பு உறுதி செய்யப்பட வேண்டும்.
• பட்டினிச்சாவு, மருத்துவ வசதிகளின்மை ஆகிய அநீதிகள் களையப்பட வேண்டும்.
• போர்ச் சூழலில் வாழும் மக்களின் இருத்தலுக்கான உரிமையை வலியுறுத்தல்.
• மக்களுக்கு தங்கள் தங்கள் இடங்களில் வாழ்வதற்கான உரிமை அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட வேண்டும்.
• போரினால் கிழக்குத் தமிழ் மக்கள் இடம்பெயர்ந்த இடங்களைப் பன்னாட்டு நிறுவனங்களிடம் கையளித்தல் நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்.
• குழந்தைகளின் பட்டினிச் சாவு நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்
• சிறுவர் பெண்கள் மீதான பாலியல் வல்லுறவு நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்.
• கைதுசெய்யப்பட்ட பத்திரிகையளார் கலைஞர்கள் விடுவிக்கப்பட வெண்டும்.
• தடுப்புக்காவலில் உள்ள கைதிகள் விடுவிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் அல்லது பகிரங்க விசாரணைக்கு உட்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்.
• இந்தியா, பாகிஸ்தான், சீனா போன்ற வெளிநாடுகள் இலங்கைக்கான போர் உதவியை நிறுத்த வேண்டும்.
• மீன்பிடித்தலுக்கான தடை நீக்கப்பட வேண்டும்.
• இனஅழிப்பில் ஈடுபடும் சிறிலங்காவுடன் அனைத்து நாடுகளும் ராஜதந்திர உறவுகளை துண்டிக்க வேண்டும்.
• இந்திய இலங்கை தமிழ் மீனவர்கள் கடலில் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்படுதல் நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்
